2009-2010 ASID Chapter Leadership Conference

This year the leadership conference for the incoming 2009-10 board members was in Cincinnati Ohio. Our incoming board is very excited to be participating in ASID, and have ideas in place for a great year! Keep visiting the blog for updates, news, events, and other Interior Design related information. Here's a brief synopsis of this years event!
The conference was held in the Hilton at Netherlands Plaza in downtown Cincinnati. It was a great hotel, with excellent service, and turned out to be a fun place to hold a conference. The Art Deco/Nouveau style of the 1930's hotel was fantastic, and fun to study during our stay. I think we all enjoyed the atmosphere- since we couldn't always enjoy the food. I'm talking about the conference food....treats were good, but the meals were a little to interesting for me as a good old Utah girl. The room service and restaurant though- were excellent! My room was on the 18th floor, and it was awesome! We had a great view of the river, and the bridge.
The Conference was really great, and it was fun to see, and meet, some of the outgoing and incoming designers that serve on the National Board of Directors.

The city if Cincinnati was pretty fun! It seems like nobody sleeps downtown! I think they were partying and dancing in the square till midnight every night! If only I were a little younger...Thank you Cincinnati, and ASID! It's going to be a GREAT year!

Remodeler’s Council Meeting – 5.14.09

The May Remodelers Council Meeting/Lunch had a great turnout, as usual. The council has not had a long history in Utah, but has grown from just a few members to what seems like 50 or 60 active members. We fill up the entire meeting room in the SLHBA building. Steve Norr, from Peppertree Cabinet's (a Local Custom Cabinet Showroom) is the NAHBR Membership Chair. He is always a happy, welcoming presence and personally introduces many of the new members at every meeting. This meeting featured a new Designer, Kaye Kofford who is new to the area, and specializes in Drapery design.

The Remodelers Council is made up of a very diverse crowd, and is always a great and fun networking opportunity. There are general contractors, remodeling contractors, cabinet manufacturers, stone countertop fabricators, Interior Designers, Flooring contractors, and all kinds of subcontractors and product vendors. The group is definitely a who's who in Utah construction!
The meetings typically start at 11:30, with a social/networking opportunity from 11-11:30 when the crowd starts to eat lunch. During lunch the council plans interesting speakers that always enhance our ability to work and build our businesses in Utah. This month's meeting featured a sponsor 'The Cabinet's Edge' who spoke for a few minutes about their custom cabinet shop. It was interesting to hear about the kinds of projects they have been working on, and to get their contact information. They left every member of the Remodeler's council with a Pen and brochure. We then had the opportunity to learn about Builder Helper, complete with a demo of how to use the website, and some interesting pointers on how Builder Helper can enhance our business opportunities.

The Next Remodelers Council meeting will be held on June 12th at 11:30 am at the Salt Lake Home Builders Association Building located at the intersection of 9000 S and 1300 W (just south of the Platinum carwash). The next meeting will feature "New Ways to Thrive and Network in the Current Economic Downturn." Show up at 11:00 to register to become a member of the Remodeler's Council, and to network with other members. There is a long list of featured speakers for the June meeting, hope to See you there!

Also, Mark Your Calendar for the Remodeler's Council Summer Social Event – An Outdoor BBQ at Crestwood Park on July 15th time TBD.
